fountain valley triathlon

by @according2kelly on July 21, 2011

having completed several races (including a couple of off-road triathlons, a marathon, a 5K, several half marathons, and a handful of olympic distance triathlons), i figured it was time to conquer the sprint triathlon.

fountain valley triathlon

5K (3.1 mile) run:  22 minutes & 50 seconds

13.7 mile bike ride: 49 minutes & 59 seconds

175 yard swim: 5 minutes & 45 seconds

final finish time: one hour, 18 minutes & 34 seconds.

i was the 4th woman to cross the finish line, & i came in 24th overall. but the real excitement came when the kids raced.

yep! yep! gavin & owen both completed their very first triathlons. they swam, biked & ran across the finish line, receiving their very own bright & shiny medals.

Hi! I know this post is a couple years old -- hoping you'll still see this. I found your blog when looking for info about the FV triathlon. I live in OC and am looking for a sprint triathlon a couple months away. Do you think this would be a good one for a beginner? I like the idea of the swim being in a pool (nice not to have to buy a wetsuit), but am not sure about the reverse format. Thanks so much! I am so inspired by your blog!

That's GREAT! Getting the boys involved early, you must be so proud! How do you find your triathlons? I never heard of the FV one...

Um, we can't participate in the same tri. You'd kick my butt. And I don't like my butt kicked that badly. ;) Congrats to your boys--I love when I see kids participating in youth triathlons!

having the kids involved was the best part. They are used to cheering me on, they were thrilled to participate!

Usually I just search for TRIs on active.com or www.trifind.com - my friend actually found the FV triathlon & they had a decent turnout!
