going goofy?

2013-walt-disney-world-marathon-weekend

ever since i realized that the runDisney walt disney marathon weekend would be celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in january, i’ve kind of wanted to run it. actually, i’ve really wanted to run it.

although, trying to decide between which race to run (the half marathon or the full 26.2) became a bit of a challenge.

i’m not usually a full marathon kinda girl – but it’s a race. & i’m a believer – runDisney races truly do have magic in every mile.

so, if i were ever going to commit to running another full marathon – runDisney probably is the way to go. but… that half was still calling me name.

& then i had a crazy idea… to run the walt disney world marathon goofy challenge – finishing both the half marathon (on saturday) & the full marathon (on sunday) in a single weekend.

i’ve ran hood to coast. i’ve ran an ultra ragnar. i have several half marathons & one full marathon under my belt.

what’s another 39.3 miles?

still unsure what to do, i asked the universe…

and let’s just say that the universe responded in an overwhelming fashion. & they almost had me convinced. almost.

but yet, i still wasn’t ready to fully commit. flying across the entire country – for a race?

most people would probably think i’m crazy. but flying across the entire country to run two races (possibly even three, if i go “whole hog” & commit to running “dopey” – a 5K, half marathon & full marathon) back-to-back. that’s just insanity, right?!

& then runDisney started to reveal the medals…

suddenly, my decision just got so much harder – i’m always a sucker for the bling.

& unfortunately, i have to decide fast. the clock is ticking – literally.

while the walt disney world marathon weekend is still months away (thank goodness – no matter which race i sign up for, i’ll need to train). but each & every race is filling up – fast! if i don’t decide soon, i might not be training for any of the races.

oy vey! what’s a girl to do? so many options? so much bling!

do i run the walt disney world half marathon? or maybe just the walt disney world full marathon?

or, do i go “full monty” and run the goofy challenge? but at that point, i might as well go dopey, right?!

somebody please help! am i certifiably insane? because i’m really starting to wonder. but those medals are definitely calling my name! i think i just need a little “nudge” before i’m ready to commit!

Go Dopey :) This year's marathon is going to be so much fun, and I think filled with surprises for the 20th anniversary. This is the perfect year to run it!

Im trying to talk myself into the half, I can afford the travel AND I can secure child care , it's just I never leave my kids thing! I'd say if you are going anyway you might as well go all out!

If I could afford the trip (I live in So Cal also), I'd definitely do it. And, since it's a once in a lifetime thing, I can see how both distances would be a compelling. If you've done many halfs, you know that distance, and you can just take it easier than you normally would to save yourself for the full the next day.

Goofy (or Dopey) is the way to go! You can sign up for Goofy now and hold off on the 5k for a little bit longer. :) If you can do a Ragnar Ultra Relay, then you shouldn't have any problems doing to the Goofy Challenge!!

I'm flying across the country to do DL half, so you can do it. :) If you are coming you may as well do goofy!

I agree Heather! I'm doing the same! And I never have the desire to run a full but that medal is gorgeous! And since you'll be flying all the way here for the full, you might as well do all three right? ;)

Well, you did run 44 miles in like 24 hours at Ragnar. You are crazy!! But crossing Goofy off of the bucket list for the anniversary is kinda awesome.

I would do it if I could. Budget and childcare issues make big destination races very challenging for me. I say go for it! I will live vicariously through you! Hey...are you doing Big Cottonwood?
