a 2.3 mile run/ walk through an empty, deserted & closed california adventure park at the disneyland resort, is always a magical way to start the day – it’s an even better way to start the D23 expo weekend.
last friday, i & a select group of d23 members, were lucky enough to attend this early morning run/ walk, & meetup with sorcerer mickey & ali vincent (host of “live big with ali vincent” & season 5 winner of the “biggest loser”).
unlike other meetups i’ve attended in the past, this one was special because so many of the participants had never experienced the “magic” of runDisney… having never attended a meetup, or even participating in a runDisney running event.
watching runners experience runDisney magic for the very first time.
feeling the excitement in the air as they took pictures with sorcerer mickey.
hearing them “ohhhhh!” & “ahhhh!” as they ran through an empty disney’s california adventure park.
feeling the group’s energy surge as the crowds cheered us on.
seeing the happiness on their faces as they crossed the “finish line.”
knowing the feeling of accomplishment that they must have been feeling – once again reminded me why i absolutely love the runDisney experience.
runDisney definitely embodies the “everyone’s a winner” mentality, & the d23 meetup was no exception.
this wasn’t a race. there were no winners or losers.
we started together & we finished together. we cheered each other on.
we encouraged each other. we had fun with each other.
meeting, chatting, getting to know people who are just as passionate as i am about disney, & seeing them fall in love with the runDisney experience, just like i have, was amazing, heartwarming, & absolutely magical.
& i’d be willing to bet money, that the limited edition d23 mini vinylmation medal we received, won’t be the last for many of the participants.
want to attend the next runDisney race meetup?
based on past runDisney meetup events…
pay extra special attention to the runDisney facebook page, runDisney twitter account, & disney parks blog a week or two before the next runDisney race. in the past, that’s where they’ve announced the meetups.
participants are usually chosen on a first-come, first-served basis – so make sure your fingers are feeling speedy! these events tend to fill super-duper-fast, so you may even want to have your RSVP email ready & waiting so all you have to do is hit “send.”
also, make sure to include your full name on your RSVP.
please be aware, that in the past, RSVPs have been limited to one per email address, & RSVPs that include more than one person or are missing information, such as an incomplete name, have not be accepted.
because this is a running event, participants are usually required to maintain a 12 minute per mile pace. although, past meetups usually run following the galloway run/ walk method.
& finally, when sending in your RSVP, make sure to send it to the right email address! pay attention to the instructions usually posted on the disney parks blog, but in the past RSVPs for disneyland meetups have been addressed to DLR.SportsMeetUps@Disney.com, while walt disney world meetups have been addressed to WDW.SportsMeetUps@Disney.com.
again, this information is based on past runDisney meetups, so make sure you are following the runDisney facebook page, runDisney twitter account, & disney parks blog to ensure that you have the most up-to-date-information.
